NO NIGHTS AND NO WEEKENDS!

This driver role is responsible for driving a tractor-trailer (day cab/sleeper), tandem trailer and/ or straight trucks on intrastate and/or interstate routes to pick up Logistics' loads and/or other related food and non-food product loads. The Dedicated Backhaul Driver then delivers the assigned loads back to PFG warehouse locations for receiving into inventory. The Dedicated Backhaul Driver is responsible for timely pick-ups and ensuring the right product is received and loaded. All routes are expected to be completed safely in accordance with all Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The Dedicated Backhaul Driver position is a dedicated Logistics or Procurement department role usually reporting to a Logistics Manager/Supervisor. The work schedule may be local and/or over-the-road, i.e. layovers. The Dedicated Backhaul Driver may be required to run a delivery route per business needs. The position will perform other duties as assigned per business need.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with DOT regulations and Company health and safety policies.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight.
  • Perform appropriate load and paperwork inspections including but not limited to product counts, invoices of products that have been loaded, quality checks and other related items as required.
  • Check and complete in an accurate and legible fashion all the required paper work associated with backhaul operations.
  • Drive to assigned supplier/vendor and/or PFG warehouse locations according to a predetermined route and delivery schedule. The schedule and route types may be local and/or over-the-road, i.e. layovers. Over-the-road schedule length will vary based on the location's business needs.
  • Routinely check in with direct supervisor to confirm route, load and schedule. Advise direct supervisor of load drop-off/pick-up issues, schedule changes and other related information.
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state and company requirements.
  • At the end of the shift secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Courteous and professional behavior must be observed in all situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • 1+ years of commercial driving experience

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or state approved equivalent
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of commercial driving experience
  • Foodservice distribution industry experience
  • Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (i.e. PeopleNet)

  • Perform pre & post trip inspections to identify any maintenance action that may be required and acts appropriately if action is needed
  • Operate all equipment per company and/or manufacturer guidelines to maximize equipment life cycle and minimize maintenance costs
  • Complete and submit reports as required by the DOT and/or company policy
  • Utilize On Board Computer per instructions and makes every effort to ensure accuracy of data
  • Exercise care when using all safety accessories to include Remote Control Devices, On Board Computers and Audio/Visual Recording Devices, if so equipped
  • Maintain professional appearance/good personal hygiene and wear full uniform

  • Ability to lift and exert up to 60 pounds of force for connecting hoses or turning valves
  • Reasonable manual dexterity for pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls and valves
  • Work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards
  • Walk, lift, push, pull, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch frequently
  • Sit for considerable periods of time
